night. the president said that the same mitt romney didn't show up at the debate as showed up in the republican primaries. he was running away from his $5 trillion tax cut plan for millionaires and billionaires but we know the facts. the middle class and seniors would have to pay for the tax cut. he talked about replacing the affordable care act but he didn't say with what. he said he would cover people with pre-existing conditions. what he left out is if you have a pre-existing condition and aren't covered right now or between jobs, you're not going to be covered under mitt romney. we'll spend the next several days making clear what positions mitt romney misled the american people on. >> jennifer: so there is an opportunity there sure for that because mitt romney and we're cataloging these lies here inside "the war room" tonight as well to let everybody know. but there was at least a sense from the great supporters of president obama, there was a sense of deflation. it was good to see that the president was out
debate was over, mitt romney was the only contender with a reason to keep smiling. according to a cnn poll, 67% of adults thought romney won the debate compared to just 25% who picked the president. 46% of undecided voters in a cbs poll gave the win to romney to just 22% for mr. obama. nearly a third of the undecideds were undecided. romney's positive rating rose above 50% for the first time in this campaign in a reuters poll. the president's ratings stayed unchanged at 56%. romney stayed on the attack even though his positions were to be charitable and flatly untrue. here's some of what he said about his tax plan and the economy. >> romney: i'm not in favor of a $5 trillion tax cut. my plan is not to put in place any tax cut that will add to the deficit. my view is we ought to provide tax relief to people in the middle class but i'm not going to reduce the share of taxes paid by high income people. we have 23 million people out of work. or stop look for work in this country. >> eliot: here's how the obama campaig

that was the real mitt romney we saw at the debates. the confident asserttive romney we saw during the debate is not the romney we have grown used to over the last couple of months. romney has since stood by his 47% statement but now he is rolling it back. here is what he said yesterday. >> it's completely wrong. and i absolutely believe, however, that my life has shown they care about 100%. >> you might think that this new romney is nothing but an act. if you do, you are not alone. here is what the president had to say to a crowd of 30,000 people yesterday in madison, wisconsin. >> i met this very spirited fellow who claims to be mitt romney. but i know it couldn't have been mitt romney because the real mitt romney has been running around the country this past year promising $5 trillion tax cuts for the wealthiest americans. >> romney is rolling out new campaign ads as well as new talking points over the next few days and weeks. his goal is to convince the american public that he is ready to be president. more coming up live after the break. stay with us. matter. >> i woul
